FABRIC LABEL DESIGN TIPS

Design

  • Your text will weave onto your labels better if it is basic and thick.
  • In a normal word processing application, block typefaces in capital letters can be as tiny as 8pts
  • Fonts that are more decorative, as well as block fonts in lowercase, should not be less than 10 points.
  • If you've a tight budget, keep your design simple or go for a printed cloth label rather than a woven one
  • You should ensure that the size isn’t too overwhelming. You don’t want labels to be the first thing your customers see.
  • Lastly, the location of your label assesses if you need a sewing margin or not. The standard is ⅛” unless requested otherwise. Remember that the sewing margin affects the size of artwork on labels.

Size

  • Woven labels are intended to be a complement to your product, raher than the first thing you'd see—visible, but not overwhelming.
  • The ‘total size’ of your logo determines pricing. The total size includes the visible portion of your label as well as the part that will be sewn into your garment.
  • To determine total pricing size, average your two dimensions. A 2" label can have a lot of variety. (2 x 2), (3 x 1), (2.25 x 1.75) are all considered 2" labels.

Sewing Margin and Location

The label's location on the garment and the label's fold are what determines whether a sewing margin is needed. Sewing margins are 1/8" unless otherwise requested. When determining the size of your woven labels, remember the margin will further reduce the size of the artwork on the label.
